Database Performance Tuning is not merely related to Monitoring User sessions, Analyzing expensive SQLs or understanding Statspack reports. In my experience with several oracle databases both OLTP and Data warehousing, tuning process is in actual fact traverses much deeper than that. You got to fully understand end to end troubleshooting of various systems involved, be able to interpret Network and Operating Systems related statistics, and above all be able to understand the application logic and business needs. I have shared some of my experiences with critical database issues and resolutions in the following pages.
